February 2008

Dear Parents,

Our second term is very short this year and it is hard to believe that we are approaching the season of Easter very soon.   Our last term will indeed be a very long and busy one.

Confirmation.

Our Confirmation took place last Saturday the 23rd February.   It was indeed a beautiful ceremony.  I would like to thank my teachers for all their hard work and my pupils for their  reverence         and participation during the ceremony.   They were excellent.  We also would like to thank Fr. Boyce, Fr. Leonard and of course Bishop Murray.  Many other people contributed to making this sacramental day so special, our special needs assistants, parents, and of course our Parents Association, who provided refreshments in our school hall after the ceremony.

First Confession.

Our children who are making their First Holy Communion this year will receive their First Confession on Wednesday 11th March at 11.30a.m. in St. Paul’s Church.

Mobile Phones.

We would like to remind all parents and children that mobile phones are not allowed in school.   Please make sure that mobile phones, Nintendo DS ‘s or any other electronic games are not being brought to school by your child.   Any phones found in school will be confiscated and handed into the Principal.   These will only be given back to parents. The school will not be responsible for any  phones or electronic equipment that is lost..

Internet Safety.

It is very important to monitor your child’s internet use.   It has come to our notice that some children have opened Bebo sites and they are not secure.   Use of the site ‘Stardoll’ also needs to be monitored as your child can receive texts from unknown individuals.  Your computer should be in a public area and secrecy should be avoided.

Hurling.

Our hurling season will begin shortly.   Please ensure that your child has a helmet and hurley.   Our school league will begin soon for 4th/5th/6th classes.   Our 4th class girls are playing in the City Schools indoor camogie competition and our 4th class boys are playing the indoor hurling competition. Camogie girls from 2nd and 3rd class will also be taken part in a camogie blitz next week.

The Parents Association have kindly offered to buy sporting equiptment such as nets, flags etc for our school.  We thank them for their continued support.

Junior Infants- Shared Reading.

Junior Infants have begun their shared-readers.   They are little books which are taken home and read with parents.   Reading is a very important part of children’s education and we hope you enjoy this special time with your children.

Lateness for School/Uniform.

There are a number of children coming late to school each morning.   A small minority are coming in as late as 9.20a.m.!  If children are late for school they must have a note explaining this.  We encourage children to be on the yard when the bell rings and then line up.   Children must wear uniform each day except on P.E. day when they wear the school tracksuit.   All children must wear uniform including 6th class.   Notes will be given to children who are late and parents will be contacted if  this persists.

Thanking You,

John Tuohy

School Principal.
