Enrolment Process

The enrolment process for Junior Infants, Sept 2024 will begin on October 1st, 2023 and the closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, November 10th at 12 noon. You will find all the necessary information under 'Parent Information, Enrolment'

Texaco Children's Art Competition

‘The Texaco Children's Art Competition is regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with a history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955. This year was its 70th year running’

One of our pupils Jillian Arriana Atienza who is in Ms. Bennis’s 5th class won a Special Merit Award in her age category. She was one of 18 winners in the country. Her masterpiece is titled ‘My Dear Liberties’.

According to Professor Granville (professor of Education in the National College of Art & Design Dublin) all pupils who won a prize/merit ‘demonstrated high level of skill and imagination’

Jillian has been invited to attend the Awards Ceremony on May 29th. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on your achievement Jillian, what an amazing masterpiece you have created.

Act of Kindness

In June 2021, Annabelle Kiely in Mr. Hutton’s 6th class donated 15 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust which is a charity that provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions such as alopecia. She also raised over €300 for the Laura Lynn foundation.

In March 2024 Annabelle cut her hair again and donated 13 inches to the Little Princess Trust.

WOW…..WELL DONE Annabelle, what an amazing act of kindness. We are so proud of you.

Aisling's Mermaid Discovery

We have a budding wildlife biologist in our midst…..Aisling Kinsella in Ms. Hanrahan’s 2nd class came across a preserved rare White Skate egg measuring almost 16cm whilst beachcombing recently in Maharees, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry.

Not only is the beach a fun place for the kids to play, it is a great place to explore. There’s no better way for the kids to learn about nature, than experiencing nature, and the environment through exploration.

Tesco Community Donation

On March 12th, Mr. Tuohy and some members of our Student Council were delighted to go to Tesco to accept a cheque for €653.00

Thank you to everyone who used their blue tokens to support our school!! We were indeed very grateful to Tesco for this very kind donation.

Life Care Pharmacy Competition

Well done to Jack Murphy in Ms. McNamara’s Senior Infants and Leila Hughes in Ms. O’Dea’s Senior infants who both won prizes in ‘Life Care’ Pharmacy colouring competition.

Holly Walsh from Life Care Pharmacy presented both Jack and Leila with fantastic hampers on March 22nd. Many thanks also to Life Care Pharmacy for the treats they dropped in for all in Juniors and Seniors also.

Easter Bonnet Competition

HATS off to all the pupils who entered into the Hata Cháisc competition run by our Students Council.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí Reachtáileadh Seachtain na Gaeilge ó 14ú – 21ú Márta in ár scoil. Bhí go leor rudaí ar siúl againn sa scoil i mbliana do Seachtain na Gaeilge.

The finale was a very exciting Tionól Scoile (school assembly) which was held in the halla on Thursday, March 21st and every class level performed a highly entertaining amhrán, dán agus rince.

Tuesday, March 19th was a very exciting day for all in Fifth & Sixth classes as they came to the Halla for a nail biting Tràth na gCeist (table quiz) with Quiz Master Mr Walsh.

Lá Glas

To celebrate the feast of St. Patrick, our patron Saint and our Irishness we held a GREEN ‘DRESS UP’ day for the whole school on Friday, March 15th.

Crazy Hair Day - Irish Cancer Society

Our school held a Crazy Hair Fundraiser Day on Tuesday, February 13th organised by our Student Council …. we had lots of creative hairstyles on the day which certainly created a great buzz of excitement around the school. Michelle Dundon from the Irish Cancer Society was welcomed to the school and presented with a cheque on Tuesday, February 27th.

We are so lucky to have such kind and caring students in our school and would like to thank our pupils and parents for their very kind donations and support for such a worthwhile cause. Huge effort was put in by teachers, parents and children alike.

Spring Gardening

Spring is in the air in Ms. Bennis’s 5th class …..

Our wildflower garden is keeping our 5th class busy and enjoying being outdoors. They did a great job weeding, loosening the soil and setting some new plants to brighten up our garden. It is certainly a lovely space for biodiversity in our school

World Book Day

We had an amazing World Book Week. There was so much activity throughout the school. Some classes dressed up as a character from their favourite book and let their imagination run wild. Other classes were paired whereby older children read to younger children. Some classes visited Dooradoyle Library and signed up for library cards and borrowed books. Other classes visited Easons bookshop to spend their vouchers.

Thanks to our teacher Ms Geary for her organization of this event and to all class teachers for promoting this wonderful event.

Stem Lego

In our January newsletter, we advised that our teacher, Mr. David Tobin on behalf of the school applied for the STEM grant that was announced by the Dept of Education. Over 2,700 schools applied and St. Paul’s were one of the lucky 560 school to receive a grant of €10K. From we grant we were able to purse our LEGO project from 1st to 6th class.

We had our first visit form Rob from Learnit on March 4th on our Lego STEM project. Ms. Barron’s 6th class and Mr.Carroll’s 4th class were the first have an inhouse LEGO workshop.

It will be rolled out throughout the school in Sept from 1st to 6th classes. The project will challenge pupils on critical thinking and problem solving. It focuses on exposing pupils to coding and much more.

Digestive System Junk Models

In Science this term, Ms. Slattery’s 5th class have been learning all about the digestive system. They have been learning about the different parts of the system, the process and they have been busy creating fantastic Digestive Systems out of recycled materials. They have spent a few weeks constructing these 3D models from "junk" and the children have worked hard as a team to create fantastic models!

Really impressive work from 5th class and a great way to show their learning!

Robotics Competition - Analog

Ms. O’Sullivan’s 6th class were selected to participate in the Analog Devices Primary School Robotics Workshop which took place on January 26th. Analog very kindly sponsored the full cost of the event which offered students an opportunity to learn about electronics and robotics by building their own robots. The workshop was run by Learn it Educational.

The WINNING team on the day were Laith Hamarneh, Mason O’Regan and Róisin Hogan and RUNNERS-UP were Jacques Adjogah, Emily Jane Reed and Matthew Gabriel Achanzar. Well done to the whole class for taking part.

On March 2nd Analog Devices Raheen Limerick ran a day long STEM inspired challenge. Over 120 primary school children from over 32 different schools went to battle with their self designed wresting robots. St. Paul’s School was delighted to be part of this challenge and our pupils, Laith Hamarneh, Mason O’Regan and Matthew Gabriel Achanzar from Ms. O’Sullivan’s 6th class did extremely well on the day. They exhibited amazing teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills and their robot worked really well.

St Brigid's Day

Our School celebrated St. Brigid’s Day on Thursday, February 1st.

Mr. Tuohy gave a brief history about St. Brigid (one of the Patron Saints of Ireland) over the intercom to all classes. She is our only female National Saint and Feb 1st celebrates the arrival of longer days and the early signs of spring and is now a national holiday in Ireland.

St. Brigid’s cross is made from rushes and are hung by the door and is traditionally believed to protect the home from fire. Check out the photo below of Ms. Hanrahan’s 2nd class who were busy making St. Brigid’s crosses.

Scór na bPáistí

Scór na bPáistí is a competition for traditional Irish talents— Ireland's traditional past-times sponsored by the GAA. It is based on the seven competitions in Scor- figure dancing, set dancing, solo singing, recitation, novelty act(léiriú) ballad group and group music. All items must be of irish character and may be in Irish or English.

At the end of January, a group from Ranganna 5 & 6 took to the stage to represent St Paul's in the county final of Scór na bPáistí. All of them were super ambassadors for our school and we are so proud of each of them for the fantastic performances they gave.

A massive ‘maith sibh’ to Ella, Emma, Olivia & Róisín (céilí dancing), Steven (solo singing), Faith (recitation), Alice, Aniela, Milena & Sarah (ballad group). They all danced, sang and acted so well that St. Paul’s finished in 5th place overall. We also made the top 5 in 3 of the competitions with Steven and Faith finishing 4th & 5th respectively. The icing on the cake was Ella, Ema, Olivia & Róisín being crowned county champions in the céilí dancing – the first Sór na bPáistí title the school has won. The excitement was fierce.

While winning is very sweet, the performances of all of our participants filled us with pride and we just want to say a big ‘Ar fheabhas’ to them all. Hunt Museum - City Kite Power Festival

The Hunt Museum organised a county and city-wide Kite Power Festival as part of its current exhibition to highlight the power of wind as an energy resource.

The museum called on Kite enthusiasts to get creative with recyclable materials. Ms. Geary’s 3rd class and Ms. Keane’s / Ms. Allis’s 4th class got the opportunity to design and make a kite at the Museum.

A big thank you to the Hunt Museum and Lumenstreet theatre for giving us the this unique opportunity to be part of this project and to all parents, teachers and transition year students for their help

TAP Project

Ms. Mortell’s 1st class took part in a Tap Project (Teacher-Artist Partnership) with Artist Georgina Sweeney in December. ‘It is a unique Department of Education and Skills initiative for supporting and enhancing arts in education in primary school’. It is where a teacher, pupils and an artist work together in collaboration with pupils in the school to develop the creative potential of every child'

Healthy Heroes

Our Healthy Heroes committee ran a whole school competition where everyone was asked to design a sticker that represented their ideas about being healthy. There were winners across the whole school and all of their entries will be made into stickers. All entries were also displayed in the halla in the Healthy Heroes display area. Healthy sandwich recipes are also displayed here.

Ms. Slattery's Art

Ms Slattery’s 5th class used oil pastels to draw and colour in Atlantic Puffins. They used a Co. Clare artist Phillip Morrison for inspiration. The puffin can sometimes be seen at the Cliffs Of Moher.

Focus Ireland Donation

Focus Ireland sent the Parents Association a certificate of appreciation for the donation received following the Christmas Jumper event last December.

Choir

A big thank you to everyone who came along and supported our School Choir in the Crescent Shopping Centre on December 11th. We really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule at this time of the year.

They were amazing and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

A a very big thank you to all our teachers who have been training them during their lunch break, Ms. Keane, Ms. Reale, Ms. Allis, Mr. Curtin, Ms. Hanrahan and Ms. Trant, our SNA, Martina and to all who helped out on the day.

On December 20th, our school choir visited St. Paul’s Nursing home to sing Christmas songs to the delight of the residents. It certainly boosted resident morale and fostered intergenerational relationships. They were absolutely fantastic and brought great joy to all the residents and were a credit to the school.

Christmas Door Competition

There was great excitement around the school on Monday morning as our Student Council committee announced the winners of the Christmas Door competition.

The Student council based their decisions on children's work, creativity, originality, teamwork and overall look. All doors can be seen in our December newsletter.

A huge thank you to our Student council for running this competition and to all teachers, pupils and staff who entered. It certainly created a festive buzz around the school.

Jersey Sponsorship

St Paul’s School now has its own set of school jerseys, thanks to Limerick & District Credit Union, Dooradoyle and Trevor Bowles Solicitors, Lower Mallow Street, Limerick for supporting our schools and it’s endeavours on the sports field.

We were thrilled to receive them and our pupils/teams will wear their new kit with pride.

The presentation took place on Tuesday, October 11th and Senior Hurler, Aaron Gillane was present on the day signing jerseys and hurleys. We are very grateful to both sponsors for the fantastic set of jerseys and our pupils looking forward to wearing them.

Credit Union World Day

Our local Credit Union invited a class over to help them celebrate ‘Credit Union World Day’. Ms. Slattery’s 5th class were the lucky class to get chosen….they enjoy ice-cream from the Ice-cream van, hot chocolate from Hook & Ladder and a keyring each. What a lovely morning!!

Halloween Fun

A big ‘Bualadh Bos’ to our Student Council who planned Fantastic Halloween events in our school before the Mid-Term Break….To follow are just a few snaps of the events….

Huge thanks all pupils from 3rd to 6th who took part in our Halloween Mask Competition. The standard of the entries was unbelievably high and we had to get an independent adjudicator ( Mr. Tuohy) to make some of the final decisions.

U13 Girls Football Win

Massive congratulations to our girls under 13 team who won the Flan Cluane Sheild final on October 25th.

The match took place in UL against a strong team from Mary Queen of Ireland N.S., Caherdavin. The girls clinched the win with a superb team goal in the final seconds of the match. The whole school welcomed them back and we're all very proud of them.

They received a 'BIG WELCOME' from the whole school upon their return.

Gaelic Football

Our U13 boys played very well by winning 2 matches in their blitz to qualify for the finals.

Our U11 boys played in a blitz in Na Parsaigh on Tuesday, October 9th. They performed extremely well and were barely beaten in the played final. Well done boys.

Trips to Dooradoyle Library

On Tuesday October 24th , children from Ms. Slattery’s and Ms. Bennis 5th class took a trip to Dooradoyle Library where they met with author Alan Nolan.

He shared his new book ‘Double Trouble at the Dead Zoo’. They spent time learning all about the characters and setting for the book and he also read some exciting chapters from his book

They also got a chance to ask Alan some questions and found out all about what inspired him to be a writer. Alan then showed them all how to draw one of the characters from his books and Alan gave every child his autograph. A great day and 5th class were a credit to St Pauls.

On October 3rd, our 6th classes visited Dooradoyle Library to see Historian, Mike Moylan. It proved to be a very interesting session.

Erasmus+

Our Erasmus + project kicked off on Tuesday,October 24th where visitors from Spain, Portugal, Greece and Latvia arrived to a glorious welcome.

The visit began with a ‘whole school’ ceremony where the school put on a wonderful display of Irish talent. Mr Tuohy opened the ceremony followed by commentary from our M.C and event organiser Mr. Curtin. They heard songs from our school choir (thanks to Ms. Keane and Ms. Allis), Irish dancing from our pupils (thanks to Ms. Roche), Traditional music played on the harp, accordion and bodhran (thanks to Ms. Reale, Ms. Keane and Martina). Our wonderful Student’s council made several speeches and as always did a wonderful job.

During the week they experienced Irish culture (where they visited Bunratty, Mr. Walsh brought them on a walking tour of Limerick etc). They couldn’t speak more highly of the welcome they received and how talented and well behaved our pupils were.

Huge credit to Mr. Curtin and the Eramus + Committee (Ms O’Dea, Mr. Walsh, Ms. Shine, Ms. O’Sullivan, Ms. Roche, Mr. Hutton, Ms. Naughton, Ms. Hayden, Ms. Flynn and Martina for organising this event and promoting our school. Having the opportunity to learn from our European peers presents itself as a wonderful opportunity for our school to acquire new skills.

The Big Sing

The Cecilian ‘Big Sing’ is a choral event and it featured choirs from St. Paul’s School and Gaelsoil an Ráithín. A choir is a lovely platform for children who may not otherwise have experienced the joy of performing in front of a live audience.

The event took place on Wednesday, October 25th in Gaelscoil an Ráithín, where our school choir were just outstanding in their performance. They also enjoyed some songs from the cast of ‘Shrek the Musical’ which will take place in the Limetree Theatre, November 22nd to 26th.

Our Erasmus visitors also attending the event and were blown away by our School Choirs performance.

A big ‘bualadh bos’ to all in our school choir for representing our school so well. You were all just fantastic.

Many thanks to our teachers Ms. Allis, Ms. Reale, Ms. Keane, Ms. Hanrahan, Mr. Curtin and SNA, Martina for giving of their time during their lunch break to train our pupils.

Maths Week

Great activity is taking place throughout the school this week where classes from Juniors to 6th will do STEM challenges for maths week (October 16th to 20th). Many learning centres, maths games took place in all classes.

Thanks to all the children and teachers for all the effort they put into the week to make it an enjoyable and educational experience. Many thanks to Mr Carroll for his organisation of this week.

Student Council 2023/2024

Our new student council committee for 2023/24 has been formed and comprises of pupils from 5th and 6th classes. Many thanks to your teacher Ms. Hayes for her help and guidance throughout the year co-ordinating events with our council members.
